I use this term throughout my blog to discuss my differing neurotype to the standard norm. Individuals diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, OCD or learning disabilities may identify with this terminology to describe their differing of processing information and social interactions. How does genuine connection support your overall wellbeing?
Gabor Mate is a physician and trauma specialist who defines trauma as a wound that needs to be healed. Finding a place that is safe in the world where we feel seen is necessary to move forward in life. I believe having a space to be vulnerable and share human experience can provide an environment for personal growth and healing.
What therapeutic approach guides you as a writer and clinician?
I believe in a person-centered approach and resonate with humanistic psychologist Carl Rogers. We all have the capacity to grow and change within us. Approaching life through mindfulness and radical acceptance has been healing for myself personally. As I move into my journey as a writer these ideals will be what motivate my work.
What is the practice of mindfulness?
Conscious awareness of the present moment without judgement. Challenges with mental health can come from living in the past or present. Mindful awareness asks us to be present with our internal and external environment.
